November brings Movember
November 30, 2012

Although November is notorious for bringing chilly temperatures and some cold days, things were feeling very warm for the Toronto Marlboros.  After a hard working and very well played tournament in Chicago (making it all the way to the finals), the team was ready to continue with their season.

With a day of rest (after all even God gave one of those), the team met for practice in anticipation of diving head first into November.

Much like the year before, November proved to be a successful month for the Marlboros.  With 2 wins under their belt and three shut outs, the team was really beginning to feel a sense of accomplishment after all of the hard work they had been putting in.  More importantly, the camaraderie between teammates was much like a brotherhood.  Their bond grew stronger with each and every game and practice.

In order to parlay their high over a well accomplished month of hockey, the team decided that they now wanted something from their coach.  In the spirit of Movember, the Marlboros asked Coach Gialedakis if he would grow a little facial hair to participate in raising awareness for diseases that affect men, namely prostate cancer.  However, this was not to be your ordinary, run of the mill moustache, oh no!!!  The team came up with the idea of a moustache resembling "handle bars" a la Eddie Shack and Lanny McDonald.

In order to continue their quest for humility and the realization that we, as a team, are blessed to have the families we have and above all to have our health, the timing couldn't have been better.  We have all been touched by cancer in some way.  Whether we ourselves are cancer survivors or have been affected by a friend or family member battling this terrible disease, we should continue our awareness.

The Toronto Marlboros hope to continue being charitable into the New Year by hosting a used equipment drive to help those in need with another act of giving.  The team has not only learned how to play the wonderful game of hockey, but they are quickly learning to pay it forward and to be aware of those less fortunate than themselves.  Here's to continuing on the success of the season!  Cheers!!!
