Great Lakes Cup: Four Down, One to Go!

With four tournaments under their belt, the Toronto Marlboros had one left and that would take the team to the very quaint town of Stratford, home of Shakespearean drama.  Like the great William Shakespeare once said, "It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves."  This was a quote that the Toronto Marlboros would have to foster in order to succeed this weekend.

Game one had the Marlboros face the Sun County Panthers.  A rather dismal beginning for the team was reflected in a 2-1 loss for the Marlboros.  Although they played virtually the entire game with a 1-0 lead, the team fell short at the end of the third period and couldn't quite pull off the win.

Game two was played against the Huron Perth Lakers.  After the loss in the morning, the team was eager to turn things around.  They did just that.  With a 2-0 win over the Lakers, the team headed back to their accommodations to rest up for an early morning ahead.

Game three was an early one.  With the puck dropping at 7:15 a.m. the team looked a little worse for the wear at such an early hour.  Regardless of the fact that they were up with the roosters, the Marlboros pulled off a 7-0 win against the North Bay Trappers.  Time to go back to the hotel and rest up for game 4.

It was time to face the London Jr. Knights in game four of the tournament.  Knowing full well that their opponents were a high ranking, fast playing hockey team, the Marlboros had to bring their A game.  The crowd that showed up to watch this particular game was astounding.  There wasn't a seat left in the house.  The game was intense from the minute the puck dropped.  The speed was insane.  It was a back forth game right from the start.  1-0, Marlboros, 1-1 Knights, 2-1 Knights, 2-2 Marlboros!  With some seriously flawed officiating and down 2 players, the teams finished with a tie, ending the game.

Unfortunately, the Marlboros did not advance to the semi's in the Great Lakes tournament but still left with their heads held high.  As they headed home, it gave them time to think about starting a new month and preparing for the final lap before playoffs.
