While some might mourn the end of summer, the Toronto Marlboro Minor Peewee team celebrated the start of a new and promising hockey season.  Like a pack of "eager beavers", the team began the season on home ice against the Jr. Canadiens.

Much like their first tournament game against the Canadians, the first season game ended much the same way, with a 0-0 tie.  The team kept up the pace but fell a little short offensively.

Game two of the season had the Marlboros face the Mississauga Reps (and we all know how that ended last year).  Coach Gialedakis reminded the team to keep their speed high and their play aggressive and they did just that.  This game was so fast, so concise and so great to watch but was unfortunately not reflected in the score; another tie of 1-1 between the teams.

Games 3 and 4 against the North York Rangers and Young Nationals yielded just the kind of results the team was yearning for.  Coming out of the gate with the desire to win, the team poured every drop of energy they had into winning these games.  The Marlboros never let up, even sinking 3 pucks in the net back to back while short handed over a 6-1 win against the Nats.   Similarly, the team outplayed, outshot and won 7-1 over the Rangers.

The final game of September saw the Marlboros face the Mississauga Senators at the main bowl in the Hershey Centre.  The environment alone was electric.  Big ice, big stands and the hope was a big win!  Both teams played an excellent game.  The puck was back and forth the entire time and had them tied for almost the duration of the game.  It did end in a 2-2 tie feeling like a bit of deja vu with the beginning of the month.

September was not just about hockey because the Marlboros also had a very successful and entertaining poker night to raise some money for the team.  The parents had fun reuniting and exchanging summer stories and sharing a few cocktails while they did.  It was also time to gear up for the Marlboros first "away" tournament in Stamford, Connecticut against some very reputable hockey teams.  Stay tuned for results of the "Showdown" in the U.S.
