No February Blues for the Marlboros

With the regular hockey season winding down, the Toronto Marlboros were left with four games in February until the playoffs would commence.  To say that these last four games were not, by far, four of the most important games of the season would be a huge understatement.  The reason being was simple; the Marlboros had their eye on the much sought after "Kraft Cup."  In order to achieve this honour which went to the team who finished number 1 in the season, the team could not lose a single game.  The Kraft Cup went to the team that executed and persevered during an entire season rather than simply win over a weekend (like most tournaments).

A strong, forceful game against the Don Mills Flyers ended with an 8 - 0 win for the Marlboros and a desire to push forward and complete the year with the same success that had been theirs so far.

The following three games against the Red Wings, the Majors and the Jr. Canadians were once again completed in "Marlboro style" with consecutive wins and a great feeling of accomplishment.  The team's hard work and spirit building was more than apparent as they rallied together like "troops" to prepare for the upcoming playoffs.

Coach Gialedakis did not ease up on the team throughout the month.  In fact, practices became more intense, chalk talk was a staple throughout their training and maintaining great physical skill was drilled into the team consistently.  With the playoffs only a week away from their final regular season game, Coach Gialedakis geared their training toward solid wins.

The playoffs would begin with the quarter finals against the Toronto Red Wings.  Although the Red Wings proved to be strong opponents and fought hard to take a win from the Marlboros, they ultimately lost the battle.  With 4 straight victories, the Marlboros prepared to face the former GTHL champs; the Mississauga Rebels.

Stay tuned for more playoff talk and results from the Toronto Marlboros.
