Some may believe that the start of a new hockey season begins when the first puck drops as the brand new season rears its head. Well that may be true for some teams, but not for the Toronto Marlboro Hockey Club.
On June 7th, 2011 the Toronto Marlboro organization kicked of the summer festivities with General Manager Mike Chraba and Head Coach Louie Gialedakis, proudly unveiling the 80th Anniversary Jersey to be worn this upcoming season. Proudly the 2011 – 2012 season coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Greater Toronto Hockey League. This commemorative jersey will recognize and honor the rich tradition and history of this organization. This moment of nostalgia was followed by a barbeque, all of which took place at the Etobicoke Centennial Ski Chalet.
The venue was chalk full of the best food including burgers, steak and Nathan’s hot dogs. There were a plethora of beverages and snacks to feed an army, but above all of that, was a group of parents and coaches and of course future hockey stars, that were eager to get to know one another and begin the new hockey season with a little pre-season cheer!
The event was a huge success. Kids ran around getting to know one another, coaches became familiar with their “new families” and fun was had by all. When asked what they thought of the gathering of all Marlboro teams a parent commented “well if this foreshadows what is to come throughout the season, I’m excited to get things started”. So with the new hockey season just three short months away, the Marlboro’s kicked back and enjoyed a little r and r while gearing up for what is to be an exciting new year.
